AXL.EKTK - EXHIBITION - FREE CANDY GALLERY

Design: Carolina Caicedo / Photo: Paul Lemarquis & Maximiliano Siñani

"A multidisciplinary MEDIATATION on the ever shifting manifestations and contemporary displays of POWER. The dynamics of power have been under close scrutiny since Hammurabi first chiseled down the phrase “an eye for an eye”. CULTURE has become more nuanced since then.

Contemporary society has seen great surging MOVEMENTS towards (and away from) the UTOPIAN IDEA of FREEDOM from coercion in the form of every kind of suffrage. SOCIETY must constantly adapt to curtail the abuse of power. At this point in history, we find the masses struggling to regain power on a global scale, newly aided by grassroots MEDIA communications.

The dialogue on power through artistic language has an equally rich history. Art in the form of PROPAGANDA has been utilized by every form of government to sway the public with images of prosperity or terror. The power of the image has become so pervasive, that we are bombarded with hundreds of messages daily, filtering the way we view our world. Almost every aspect of oursurroundings have been influenced by design. Postmodernism has ushered in the spectacle, and technology has broadcasted it into every available port. Artists have taken up critical stances in reaction to these developments. Struggles in aesthetics have been waged over reiterations of the timeless SUBLIME versus never ending forging forward towards an ever more contemporary image. The conversation continues.

AXL.EKTK Collective brings you a selection of artists from around the world who are all taking on the idea of power as it is perceived via visions of BEAUTY, industrial design, social struggle, the uncanny in the every day OBJECT, in the externalizing of self, and the transformative power of the image."
